Dear Buggers,

I can’t understand what all the hero worship was about with these Olympians. All those athletes are public servants, After all, it’s their job and they’re paid by the taxpayer, and winning a gold medal is only doing their job properly. Ho fucking hum. It’s not as if they’re busting their arse in their own time before and after work for the greater glory of the nation. And I get a little uncomfortable about the beat-up nationalism, and I think I was the only person who felt sorry for Perec running home to France. The poor woman cracked under the pressure of work. Aren’t we supposed to be compassionate about that? Instead, everyone was pointing and laughing and laying into her. Very bad taste. Picking on the person who can’t cope with what society expects. All the platitudes they’re supposed to give in answer to the inane questions of reporters. Seemed like bullying to me.
